I am currently at Magento Developer’s Paradise in Ibiza.
The overall theme for tomorrow’s hack-sessions will be localization. I will likely be looking at creating a starting pack for New Zealand. I am keen to hear what you think should be part of this pack. The underlying idea is to create an extension that will contain all instructions to start using Magento in New Zealand.
The role model for the localization pack is what the German community has come up with in the German Setup extension. For example it will set tax rates for you, add additional regions, adjust email templates and also automatically create required by law CMS pages.
What do you think should be part of the New Zealand version? Keep in mind this should ideally be applicable to all stores operating in NZ.
Developers what are you setting up on every store?
What else can you think of that could be included?

Hi Kristof,
Great idea. Some possible ideas inspired by the Fontis Australia extension (http://www.fontis.com.au/magento/extensions/australia)
- area to record company registration details (incl. company number, trading as, etc)
- New Zealand Specific areas in the checkout process when selecting the shipping details eg. Northland, Auckland, Hamilton, etc
- NZ post integration of some sort
Just a quick idea: whenever “tax” is mentioned, translate to “GST”
There’s not much one can do as there are no specific general regulations around eCommerce in NZ.
You can set up and localise the NZ GST settings and a few configuration values around currency.
A Bank Deposit method with the specific fields is OK.
Even the regions database can’t be unified as most shipping requirements differ. Some stores will have rates for NI, SI and AKL, but the actual NZ regions as set by the Fontis extension are counterproductive imho. Nobody knows where Manawatu is…
Maybe some CMS pages pre-set up with customer services info on security and privacy, spam policy, returns and delivery.
